In this article, we're going to give you five compelling reasons why you shouldn't ignore yoga any longer. So grab a cup of tea, find a quiet corner (if that's even possible), and get ready to discover how yoga can transform your life as a busy mom. Trust us, you won't regret it.
As you progress in your practice, you will find that you can sink deeper into poses and hold them for longer periods. This increased flexibility not only makes everyday movements easier but also helps to prevent injuries.
Additionally, yoga helps to build strength by using the resistance of your body weight in various poses and sequences. You may be surprised at how quickly you start to notice increased muscle tone and strength in areas like your arms, legs, core, and back.
So whether you can touch your toes or not, yoga is a great way for moms living in the outback and beyond to improve their flexibility and strength.
Moms, we all know how challenging it can be to maintain focus and concentration in our busy lives. But did you know that practising yoga can enhance your ability to stay present and focused? It's true!
Yoga is not just about physical exercise; it's about connecting your mind and body. By slowing down, focusing on your breath, and moving through yoga poses, you are training your mind to stay present in the moment. This increased mindfulness carries over into other areas of your life, allowing you to maintain focus and concentration even when things get hectic.
One of the main benefits of yoga is its ability to reduce stress. When you are stressed, it can be difficult to concentrate on anything else. Yoga helps activate the relaxation response in our bodies, calming the nervous system and reducing stress levels. As a result, you'll find it easier to focus on the task at hand and let go of distracting thoughts.
Research has shown that regular yoga practice can improve cognitive function, including attention span and memory. By engaging in yoga poses that require concentration and balance, you are challenging your brain and enhancing its ability to stay focused. This increased cognitive function will not only benefit you during your yoga practice but also in your daily life as a mom.
In addition to improving focus and concentration, yoga can also provide mental clarity. When our minds are cluttered with thoughts and worries, it can be difficult to think clearly or make decisions. Yoga helps quiet the mind by allowing us to let go of unnecessary thoughts and distractions. This mental clarity allows us to approach tasks with a clear mind and make decisions more efficiently.
Yoga allows you to connect with your body and become aware of how your body moves and feels. This awareness can help you become tuned in to your body's needs and help you make healthier choices in your daily life. Through mindful movements, you can increase your strength and coordination.
In addition, yoga can help you gain flexibility and stability, which can be especially beneficial for moms, who often carry a lot of stress in their bodies.
When you're a busy mom, it can be hard to make time for yourself. But yoga can help. Taking time to practice yoga regularly can help you cultivate inner peace and give you time to be present and simply enjoy the moment. Through yoga, you can learn how to relax and let go of stress, which can be beneficial for both your physical and mental health.
When you think of yoga, you may immediately picture people twisting themselves into pretzel-like positions. But did you know that yoga can actually improve your posture and balance? It's true! Here's how:
So, moms, it's time to put yourself first and embrace the power of yoga.
Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned yogi, there are so many reasons why this practice is perfect for you. It's not just about the physical benefits of toning and flexibility, although those are certainly a plus. It's about finding that inner calm and strength that can carry you through the chaos of motherhood.
Remember, it's not just about the yoga—it's about the journey of self-discovery and self-care. So take that first step onto the mat, and let yoga be your guide to a happier, healthier you.

Medical Yoga Therapy is the supervised practice of a certified trained therapist in yoga for the prevention and recovery of various chronic conditions.
1. Hypothesis that Yoga can improve cardiovascular health by reducing hypertension, and heart rate and balancing blood glucose levels, via stimulating the parasympathetic system. I state that this is a hypothesis due to a lack of strong evidence in clinical studies. However, at the bottom of this page is a simple algorithm of events that can occur within the body to support this theory.
2. Yoga relieves anxiety with the practice of meditation, breathing techniques and distractions which involve the mindfulness and concentration of yoga poses and assist with coping strategies for emotional triggers.
3. Yoga eliminates excessive stress. A few clinical studies have shown the relationship between yoga and the increased function of neurotransmitters and hormones particularly in areas that control emotions, executive functioning and sleep/wake cycles.
4. Yoga has been effective along side other treatment algorithms in traumatic cases. Trauma-sensitive yoga treatments provide support in healing and recovery for people with traumatic illnesses.
5. Yoga has been proven in clinical trials to be an added treatment in the recovery from low back pain.
While treating depression alongside pharmacological treatments, trials showed a modest result in short-term benefits.
🧘♂️It is important to note that research in yoga showed in some studies that there were small sample sizes, inadequate controls and large bias.
🧘♂️ Excessive stress>> increased cortisol>> metabolism of fat, protein and carbohydrates>>converted to glucose>> raised blood glucose levels, immune system suppressed, retention of sodium and water>> increases blood pressure.
🧘♂️If you decide to start Yoga, as with any exercise regime, please discuss this with your Medical Officer. Hopefully, in the near future, funding and participants may be available for more rigorous clinical trials in yoga.
